However I have felt reserved about maxi dresses because I could never find the right cut for me. My 1930s style wedding dress draped across the floor (a rookie mistake for a muddy wedding in forest), but otherwise I've been a fan of knee length or midi. Until the Phase Eight Clemence dress that is. If this had been available at the time I seriously would have considered it for a bridal gown due to the fab colours.
This is a truly stunning dress that skims and sits perfectly on my figure. It's also just right for my 5 foot 7 inch height - though if I'm wearing flats and travelling on a double decker there are some foot/cloth/step negotiations that take place. If you are shorter than me the hem will likely need taken up a little or a pair of heels added.
The colours are absolutely gorgeous. It swings, it swishes, it sashays. The bust line is extremely flattering, but still contains the girls well. The waist high enough to flow over my hips comfortably.
Occasion wise - summer holidays! I think with the right accessories it could also translate to a summer wedding guest depending on the location. It goes great with any number of cardigans/boleros and hair accessories because of all the great colours.
All in all I absolutely love it and would happily buy more Phase Eight maxis in a heartbeat if I could find them a) in the sale again and b) in my size in the sale again. Recently I've been eyeing up the Studio Eight (Phase Eight's plus-size sister line)'s new navy jumpsuit... The Clemence is on sale again at the moment, but still coming in at almost £80. The quality is excellent and I'm getting a lot of wear out of it.
So, there's always bits of myself that jump out at me when I look back at the photos on these reviews and I can hear that critical internal instinctive sharp intake of breath and intuitive grimace 'it would look nice if only this part of me was thinner/more toned/whatever' and I could feel self-concious about it, try to hide things, try to Photoshop - but nah, shut that noise, this dress is entirely awesome and my body works for me. Yas Queen!
