I really hope this is the start of a good run for Death from Above as the new album The Physical World is excellent and they are something to behold live. Anyone who can make white dungarees seem like a legitimate choice for drumming has a special level of charisma.
I also went out (on a school night no less) to the Howlin' Wolf bar on Bath Street to help celebrate a friends birthday.
AND. I. LOVE. IT.
From the beats to the booths to the bar to the late night chicken wings to the back section where you can chat away from the noise of the band I'm on board. I liked it so much I plan to go there again this coming week for my own birthday. The crowd was a mix of a cool mature crowd in for the band and painfully youthful hip types hanging out at the back. Oh and my friends, who I think are somewhere in between. Granted I've only been in once, but I was sold.
The night I went I was having problems with my bank which meant problems with getting a taxi home and I was pretty wound up, but still had a good time. This time my bank account is looking ok and I have couple days vacation!
Newish (we took a long time to finally get around to visiting for the first time in December though it's been around since last summer) Southside bar the Rum Shack is a total gem. Serving up Caribbean food in the kitchen and a mix of music in the bar (along with lots of rums of course) the venue is cosy and welcoming with a healthy supply of regulars. Worth repeated visits.
A note on my bars of choice - I rarely go to bars/clubs on Friday/Saturday because I'm a total curmudgeon who doesn't like to queue. Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays are my favourite going out nights which is why I go out rarely because I currently work regular office hours and have to wait for beloved vacation days.
