I'd say I'm quite an intense person socially - but not like one of those energetic charming ones that people flock to. Just one of those who come across as far too aggressively passionate about things when in my mind I've having a totally normal conversation with someone about window boxes. Luckily my husband DOES find that kind of thing charming so I have someone to rant at. So I'm not sure how to talk about writing a book without it sounding like 'hey everyone, come see how good I look!' Anchorman style.
The reason I'm posting this little blog entry today is that I've hit a first 10,000 word mark and felt like a little ceremony might be a good idea.
Various articles I've read say 80,000 is 'about a novel' and that each 10,000 words is a little achievement. Then again this might all go the way of Game of Thrones as I'm already seeing the story going across 3 books, which would mean I'm about another 20,000 words short of any victory... Premature celebrating perhaps... I don't know, all book are different anyway so who knows? To be fair the writing part is going to be the least of it, it's the editing I know lies in wait. For now though I am just writing - every day.
My story is fantasy set in an historical alternative, but recognisable universe. That's all I can say at the moment as I'm about 70,000 words away from my pitch, but it does include people, death, sex, and ideally at least some jokes.
I won't post about this project again until I've at the very least hit 30,000 words, so you're safe for a while.
Anyway I'm going to get back to it now. Apologies for the interruption, go about your business.
